I finally assembled my Strandbeest kit from the Japanese magazine Otona no Kagaku. When translated it means “science for adults”. I didn’t get the magazine, just the kit from an ebay reseller. More information about the magazine can be found here: http://otonanokagaku.net.
The kit is based on the mechanisms created by the Dutch artist Theo Jansen. His work can be seen here: http://www.strandbeest.com. The kit is easy to build and when competed is a working Strandbeest powered by wind. It’s a fun and fascinating build, well worth the $12-$20 price tag. It hit the spot on a cold and rainy day.
